Raymond Anthony

Assistant Professor, Ph.D., Purdue University
Ethical Theory, Animal, Environmental, and Food Ethics, Philosophy of Technology

I am interested in environmental, food, animal and agricultural ethics.  I also specialize in Philosophy of Technology, in particular issues dealing with social justice, participatory democracy, future generations and responsible citizenship.  I continue to explore concerns in ethical theory, especially debates surrounding the status of quasi-realism as it relates to moral explanation.

During graduate school at Purdue University, I undertook a twenty month stint at The University of British Columbia (Maurice Young Centre for Applied Ethics, The Animal Welfare Program, The Department of Philosophy, and The Continuing Studies Program).  I was able to return to UBC as a visiting lecturer in 2005 after spending a most enjoyable year and a half teaching at Iowa State University.

Besides travel and food, I enjoy the company of good friends and good music.

Current University Activities:

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability
